Thousands of Calgary Youth Ready to Get Active at Sport Calgary’s All Sport One Day June 17

Young Calgarians to enjoy FREE opportunity to try more than 60 sports at 12 multi-sport venues in YYC

CALGARYMore than 3,500 Calgary youth will be kicking balls, running, jumping, swimming, curling and playing more than 60 sports for the first time throughout the city on June 17 as part of Sport Calgary’s All Sport One Day initiative.

Media are invited to join Sport Calgary president and chief executive officer, Catriona Le May Doan, in catching the action on Saturday at either Glenmore Athletic Park (10:40 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.) or the Genesis Centre (1-3 p.m.).

Sport Calgary, in partnership with more than 50 community sport organizations and 12 multi-sport venues, is opening the doors for families of young Calgarians to try their sport-of-choice on June 17.

Parents and guardians of children aged 6 and above will have more than 200 sessions to choose from in a variety of winter and summer sports, including: soccer, basketball, volleyball, eight different martial arts activities, biathlon, fencing, curling, ringette, orienteering, disc golf, underwater hockey, and so much more. All sessions are led by certified instructors from community-based sport organizations focused on ensuring a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all skill levels and backgrounds. Many sessions are also adaptable for kids with cognitive or physical abilities.

“Sport Calgary is committed to breaking down barriers to provide all Calgarians, particularly our youth, the opportunity to live healthier and more active lives through sport and play,” said Catriona Le May Doan, president and chief executive officer, Sport Calgary. “Our goal through All Sport One Day is to encourage young Calgarians to enjoy a day of play while connecting them with sport organizations in our city’s facilities, ultimately helping them discover a new sporting passion.”

All participants were required to pre-register online, however, drop-ins will be considered provided space is available.
