Thank you to all the athletes, businesses, sport organizations and VIP who join us to celebrate sport in Calgary.
With over 350 attendees, this successfull event regognizes the valuable role of sport in enhancing Calgary’s quality of life, community well-being and economic prosperity.
Mayor Dave Bronconnier and Gord Smith, chairman of Calgary Sport Council presented our awards:
The Sport Leadership and Excellence Award recognizes and celebrates the
outstanding contribution of a sport organization or club to the
betterment of sport in Calgary. Our finalists are Babe Ruth Baseball Association of Calgary, Girls Hockey Calgary and Talisman Centre for Sport and Wellness. Congratulations to our 2009 award winner:
Girls Hockey Calgary. This organization facilitates over 500 girls playing hockey in female
leagues from novice through junior. Although the focus of this
organization is hockey they have been a leader for other organizations
which have the similar focus of creating opportunities for females to
play any sport within a safe and fun environment.
The Business and Sport Excellence Award recognizes and celebrates a
corporation that provides outstanding, innovative and consistent
support to sport in Calgary. Our finalists are INTACT Insurance Company of Canada, Timbertown Buiding Centr andTim Hortons.
This year’s winner is Tim Hortons. In Calgary, Tim Hortons has helped over 10,000 Calgary kids participate
in soccer, has sponsored tournaments and provided Saddledome ice time
for many young Calgary hockey players. Tim Hortons supports programs to
help develop and mentor coaches, while Tim Hortons’ franchises also
contribute many volunteer hours to put these programs into play.
